At Seabed, we work to build lasting relationships with the communities in which we operate. Our approach is first to seek to ensure our presence has a positive impact.
Part of those efforts includes community partnerships that enable philanthropic giving to community causes that address local needs and align with Seabed's values. Our giving programs span numerous causes, including conservation, education, health initiatives, and military appreciation, among others.
At the core of our business, we believe that our natural resources' conservation goes hand-in-hand with responsible energy development. Our operational philosophy and commitment to safety underpin our approach. Our community partnership programs in conservation further support these objectives. For example, through the Seabed Tree Grant Program, we have donated more than 4.7 million trees to nonprofits and governmental organizations in the United States. Seabed has a long history of collaborating with public parks and has supported improvement and repair projects in the communities where we operate. We have also worked proactively with the McDonald Observatory in West Texas to develop light pollution reduction measures for our facilities and our industry. We continue to work with the Observatory to help educate others in our industry and the community about the importance of protecting the dark skies.
Our employees and our communities' health is critically important, and we seek to identify community partnership opportunities that promote wellness and healthy living. We also support the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in programs designed to accelerate scientific discoveries into clinical advances and significantly reduce cancer mortality rates. Seabed has partnered with Maggie's Aberdeen Cancer Care Centre in the U.K. since its opening in 2013. Our long-term support has enabled over 37,000 cancer patients and their families to benefit from vital services provided by cancer support specialists, nutritionists, and psychologists. We support training and education for nurses who work at the Diabetic Center and sponsored much-needed medical supplies through Project C.U.R.E.
